Any poker player out there will be glued to the television over the coming month as the World Series of Poker hits Vegas for the WSOP 2008 championships.
I remember when I was a youngster and dreamed of becoming an astronaught. Well, nature tooks its course and it quickly became apparent that I had neither the aptitude, will, or plain ability to pursue the career of my dreams. However, as a fully grown adult I still harbour dreams and ambitions, and highest amongst them is to play at the WSOP.
Whilst some of you may mock me in my dreams of making the WSOP as pure fantasy, I’d like to remind you all that it is possible. In fact, a small number of players have not only made the tournament but have gone on to win it and collect a major fortune in the process.
So, I’m all set for Vegas this year. I’ve tenatively scheduled the time off work and all I need is the $10,000 entry fee.
Yes, the $10k is a bit of an issue for me, but I’m playing as many online tournaments in vain attempt to get my golden ticket. Most online poker sites realise that there are tens of thousands of dreamers like me out there, and have kindly put up tournaments with the winners getting a free ticket to the big one.
One such site is PKR.Poker whose site is offering 12 golden tickets in their WSOP promotion. I’m feeling lucky this year and will let you all know how I get on at the PKR Poker.com WSOP freerolls and tournaments. Cross your fingers for me. Even grown adults can dream!
As I keep reminding myself, ‘you have to be in it to win it’! Then again I do feel a little like that chap out of ‘Charlie and The Chocolat Factory’. Willy Wonka here I come.
